The tenth Capital City Prize for Integration and Tolerance, awarded by the Initiative Hauptstadt Berlin e.V. (IHB), was presented on November 14th with a ceremony in the atrium of Deutsche Bank, Unter den Linden. The keynote speaker was Hans-Georg Engelke, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior. He stood in for Peter Altmaier, Head of the Federal Chancellery and Federal Minister for Special Affairs, who was unable to attend. The speech for the special prize was given by Serap Güler, State Secretary for Integration at the Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Marc F. Kimmich, Managing Partner of COPRO, was delighted about the anniversary: "We have been supporting these integration projects for 10 years now and are continually impressed by the fantastic ideas and passionate commitment." For COPRO, this support is a matter close to their hearts and an important way to recognize such social achievements.
The jury, consisting of Christian Awe, Babak Ghassim, Peter Kurth, Nariman Reinke, and Christoph Wegener, presented the award-winning projects and awarded the prizes, each worth €50,000, to guests from politics, business, film, and culture, members of the IHB (International Capital Berlin), and this year's competition participants.
Federal Minister of the Interior Dr. Thomas de Maizière, as patron of the event, said: "For the state and society, successful integration is one of the central tasks for the coming years. The aim of the Capital City Prize—to promote integration and demand tolerance—is therefore more important than ever. Integration does not happen on the outside, but at the heart of society. This means seeing society as a whole and involving all groups more than ever before in everything we do to improve social cohesion."
In its tenth anniversary year, the Hauptstadt Berlin e.V. (Capital City Berlin Initiative) awarded two special prizes, each worth €3,000. Jocelyn B. Smith accepted the special prize for her project "Shine A Light." The song is an important appeal for greater humanity and calls for a fight for more tolerance.

This year, a total of 70 project organizers and initiatives participated in the competition for the Capital City Prize for Integration and Tolerance. In addition to the two special prizes, the jury selected five individual prize winners in this anniversary year, rather than just three overall winners.
The first prize, endowed with €15,000, went to the Jona's House project of the Jona Foundation. This project is an open-access children's and youth welfare facility in Spandau that supports children and young people from socially disadvantaged families. Its goal is to improve their living conditions and create future prospects.
