From September 12, 2020 to January 23, 2021, C/O Berlin is presenting the exhibition Felicity Hammond: Remains in Development at the Amerika Haus. For her first exhibition in Germany, Felicity Hammond brings together three recent bodies of work in a newly developed, site-specific installation. Remains in Development combines large-scale collages, sculptural elements, and an installation that explores chroma keying—a film and photo technique based on green and blue backgrounds used to separate objects from their surroundings and re-stage them against any backdrop.
"Movement for everyone" is the motto of the initiators – and they've created a diverse fitness park right in the park – naturally sustainable and intercultural. On the approximately 300 m² B-Part Sports, "work" and "workout" are meant to form a symbiotic connection. From fitness trails for beginners and pros to workout areas, exercise equipment, and step boxes: Philipp Boy has designed an inspiring program for body and mind, creating a holistic concept for Berliners, neighbors, and anyone interested.
"B-Part Sports will significantly expand the range of sports activities available here in Gleisdreieck Park," says former Olympian Philipp Boy. “I will be present myself and offer a variety of classes, for which I have put together a gymnastics-based program. I am very pleased to be able to work with B-Part Am Gleisdreieck here in the heart of Berlin to promote an active lifestyle and to help shape the park for the people of this city. I want to bring people together through sports and foster active community. That's why it was particularly important to me to offer different classes for all age groups and fitness levels.”
The approximately 26-hectare park at Gleisdreieck is a new type of urban park: natural wilderness meets landscaped open space, and relaxing retreats meet versatile open areas. “The district can only welcome such sports facilities at Gleisdreieck; the need for modern sports facilities for everyone is enormous,” said Michaela Schulte, Head of the Sports Department.
B-Part Sports is integrated into the overall concept of B-Part Am Gleisdreieck. Spanning approximately 1,000 square meters, this pioneering project offers a public café, numerous coworking spaces, and multifunctional rooms for art exhibitions and events. In addition to this "hardware," B-Part also houses a unique "software"—the Urban Ideation Lab. The lab provides six free, curated workspaces for exploring future-oriented ideas and solutions for a vibrant urban district. B-Part Sports is another way for everyone to get involved and contribute: sports for community building. Similar to B-Part Am Gleisdreieck, B-Part Sports is built using a modular system and can be flexibly reconfigured and relocated.
"B-Part is intended to present our vision for a resource-efficient, forward-looking, open, and diverse urban district," says Marc F. Kimmich. "The Urban Center Am Gleisdreieck will harmoniously unite all aspects of future living and working: art and cultural projects, subsidized spaces for local manufacturers, intergenerational social facilities, and offerings for new forms of mobility and work will create an innovative and intercultural meeting place. Now, B-Part Am Gleisdreieck is being expanded with the versatile B-Part Sports park, which completes our holistic vision for the urban district of tomorrow. We are delighted to have Phillip Boy as our sports ambassador! His expertise and diverse course offerings will significantly contribute to creating a gathering place for urban communities."
This coming Saturday, January 25, 2020, Phillip Boy will offer two free training sessions for interested individuals: from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for beginners and from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for advanced participants. B-Part Sports will be open to the public from February 1, 2020. Guided classes, for example with Philipp Boy, can be booked via the B-Part website.
