Mobility of the future

Generation Z meets Future Mobility:

Under the guidance of digital consultant and Urban Ideation Lab Fellow RCKT, 28 students from the Hermann Hesse Gymnasium in Kreuzberg developed digital solutions for the mobility of the future last Wednesday at B-Part Am Gleisdreieck. The workshop aimed to have the students design concepts for mobility apps using Design Dash and Design Thinking methods.

A central question addressed in the workshop was: How can we make sustainable modes of transportation, such as public transport and bicycles, more attractive in the future? Questions about safety, which are of particular concern to the students, were also discussed constructively: How can we make students feel even safer on public transport in the evenings?

The results were creatively implemented and visualized in collaboration with RCKT. The resulting app concepts demonstrated how the students transformed their ideas from a problem statement to a prototype in a very short time. Paula Alexander, a member of RCKT: “It was great to see how resourceful and curious the students were when tackling the tasks. It’s important to actively involve Generation Z in problem-solving processes, especially when it comes to mobility.” The workshop was just the beginning. Further Urban Ideation Lab events on the topic of mobility are planned for the B-Part Am Gleisdreieck.

The Berlin-based digital consultancy RCKT started as a spin-off from Rocket Internet and now has 60 employees. RCKT’s clients include Commerzbank, Deutsche Bahn, and the German Federal Government. Paula Alexander, Anna-Stephanie Gurt, and Lara-Marie Nöh form the RCKT team in the Urban Ideation Lab. Together with students, they discuss the topic of urban mobility and give them the opportunity to actively shape their city of the future.

Information about B-Part Am Gleisdreieck

On the site of one of Berlin's most central inner-city development areas, Urbane Mitte Am Gleisdreieck opened a laboratory for the ideal urban quarter in early 2019: The temporary building, located directly adjacent to the park, offers 1,000 square meters of innovation space for people who want to experience, explore, and help shape the living and working environments of tomorrow.

The coworking space, managed by St. Oberholz, offers around 100 workstations for flexible, healthy, and inspiring work. A public café, art exhibitions, panels, and publications on urban future topics at B-Part promote collaboration and participation. In the Urban Ideation Lab, where positions are awarded through scholarships, fellows explore new aspects of urbanity such as intermodal mobility, new work, and blueprints for livable urban spaces. After the current use of the multifunctional wooden building, B-Part can be rebuilt at a different location.

Following the BRLO Brauhaus, the B-Part offers another glimpse into the potential of urban development at Gleisdreieck: as a meaningful and inspiring quarter for neighbors, park visitors and all people who will work here in the future.
