Planning basis for Urbane Mitte officially confirmed

It’s now official: The senate department for urban development, building and housing has published its review report on Urbane Mitte and confirms:

  1. From an urban development policy perspective, the Urbane Mitte concept and the draft development plan together with the urban development contract meet current climate policy tasks and local needs.
  2. There is no need to amend the land-use plan or the Urban Development Framework Agreement for Gleisdreieck.

DLE and COPRO view this official review as confirmation of the planning basis to date and thank the Senate Department for Urban Development, Building and Housing for this comprehensive and conclusive professional assessment. This also affirms the public vote from the workshop process begun in 2014, which aimed to achieve an early, broad consensus among experts and citizens. The results of this early participation process formed the basis for the subsequent international urban design and architecture competition, won by the Berlin firm Ortner & Ortner Baukunst. The numerous majority votes in favor of the project by the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district’s political bodies are likewise confirmed by the Senate Department’s review.
