The Berlin Business Talks Association (BWG) hosted an open dialogue on the topic of "Growing City – Challenges in Housing Construction and Urban Districts" on December 9, 2019, at B-Part Am Gleisdreieck – the laboratory for the urban district of tomorrow.
More than 60 guests discussed various topics with Katrin Lompscher, Senator for Urban Development and Housing, including the controversial issue of rent control. Senator Lompscher stated that there will be no rent control for commercial space as a continuation of Berlin's existing rent control for residential properties. In addition to the widely discussed topic of rent control, the Senator was also able to announce progress. Fifty-eight social preservation areas have been designated during the current legislative period. Senator Lompscher also reported that the Urban Development Plan for Housing 2030 (StEP Wohnen 2030) is making good progress.
The Berlin Business Talks Association (Berliner wirtschaftsgespräche e. V.) now boasts over 300 institutional and individual members, as well as 15,000 interested individuals, and hosts approximately 150 events annually to connect business, science, culture, and politics and foster open dialogue. "The issues that drive our city, Germany, and Europe also drive the Berlin Business Talks Association (BWG). Our strength lies in our ability to collaborate with key stakeholders in creative processes to bring topics to the forefront of Berlin's agenda, topics that will drive the city's development," says Kristina Jahn, Chair of the Berlin Business Talks Association.
As a forward-looking venue, the B-Part Urban Lab at Gleisdreieck warmly welcomes the Berlin Business Talks Association to host further exciting events in 2020.
