Berlin, 20.
A Tribute to Berlin's Historic Architecture
With the GLINT book, TPA and its co-investors v B Housing and COPRO have created a communication medium that reflects the luxurious character of the Wilhelminian-era ensemble: "We used fine linen, embossed cover lettering, and thick Munken paper," says Guediri. The book takes readers on a journey of discovery through the awakening Berlin, documented by renowned architectural photographer H. G. Esch. An interview with Count and Countess von Bothmer brings the architectural history to life. High-quality images showcase the transformation of GLINT, which unites past and future. Berlin-based curator and artistic director Rüdiger Lange further illuminates the historic buildings through light art and exhibitions such as Standard International #4 Spatial Clearing. The book is available only as a limited edition at the GLINT Apartment Store.
Starting in 2019, the Wilhelminian-era GLINT complex will undergo comprehensive renovation and revitalization – taking into account its architectural history and in close consultation with the Berlin Monument Preservation Authority. The original facades will be preserved. The complex will become a spacious residential quarter with commercial and community spaces, where new values will find a home and old values will live on. The goal of the collaboration between TPA, v B Housing, and COPRO was to bring GLINT to life even before construction began: “With the GLINT book, we wanted to spark interest in this Wilhelminian-era complex, which had lain dormant for decades, and make its beauty tangible through a variety of media,” explains Guediri. The construction and revitalization work is expected to take approximately five years.
The Red Dot Design Award was established over 60 years ago by the German Design Council. Agencies, designers, and companies from around the world can submit their work in 17 categories. Participants from 45 countries submitted a total of 8,600 entries, which were judged on aesthetics, originality, clarity, and execution. With its exceptional concept, the GLINT book has a good chance of being recognized in the next round of the Red Dot Awards. The Best of the Best Awards will be announced on October 26, 2018, at the Konzerthaus Berlin in the presence of all the winners.
