Berlin, November 8, 2018 – After the previous owner had only undertaken safety measures at the GLINT historic building complex, COPRO, following its acquisition of the property in June 2016, began developing a revitalization and new construction concept for the complex. After intensive consultation with the city planning and historic preservation authorities, the City of Berlin granted the real estate developer the building permit for GLINT.
The construction project is being implemented by COPRO and Bothmer Architects. As part of the renovation and new construction, the project managers are uniting the individual existing buildings into a cohesive ensemble. “GLINT is being carefully revitalized in close consultation with the historic preservation authorities. Our goal is to preserve the historical core and charm of this architectural gem and adapt it to the needs of today with meticulous attention to detail,” explains Nadir J. Guediri, Managing Director of COPRO Projektentwicklung GmbH. Six commercial units will be created on the ground floor of GLINT. The building will comprise 69 condominiums and community spaces such as a courtyard oasis and a fireplace lounge. All apartments will be equipped with a smart home system. A forward-looking mobility concept with e-bikes and e-mobility parking spaces will also be implemented. The four existing buildings will be complemented by a new building in the inner courtyard. An apartment showroom within the complex already offers concrete insights into the future interior design and is also available for sales consultations and events.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2019. Completion is expected to take three years. Even before construction begins, GLINT is being used for cultural purposes, with co-investors vB Housing and COPRO making the building available to artists as an exhibition space. For example, the group exhibition "Standard International #5: Spatial Manifestation," which ran from September 22 to October 20, 2018, showcased sculptures, installations, and environments at GLINT, representing a characteristic material aesthetic, particularly prevalent in post-reunification Berlin. The curator and artistic director of all projects is Rüdiger Lange, a pioneer of Berlin's project culture.
COPRO has been implementing sophisticated real estate projects since 1993, encompassing the entire value chain in the real estate sector: from the initial project idea and concept development through implementation, including realization and sales, to subsequent property management. The successful collaboration between COPRO and von Bothmer Architekten to date is evident in projects such as the revitalization of the Imperial Post Office in Berlin-Zehlendorf and a residential and loft building in Berlin-Kreuzberg, located directly on the Spree River. In collaboration with TPA, COPRO developed the GLINT book, which brings the revival of the historic building to life even before its planned renovation through striking project images, renderings, and informative texts. The project received the Red Dot Design Award 2018 and the European Property Award 2018/2019. GLINT was also awarded a Gold certification by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
