COPRO and FORE Partnership celebrate Topping-Out ceremony in Geisberg

Berlin, May 23, 2017 – Under bright sunshine, COPRO Projektentwicklung GmbH, together with its project partner FORE Partnership and around 300 guests, celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the 15,000-square-meter residential project "Geisberg Berlin" on Geisbergstrasse in Berlin-Schöneberg.

Those present, including the teams from COPRO and FORE, future residents and owners, employees of Ed. Züblin AG as the general contractor, and tradespeople from the 35 companies currently working on the construction, applauded as Züblin foreman Frank Hülsemann, in traditional work attire, placed the crowning element on the six-story building.

There was plenty to celebrate, as work on the site of the former, listed post and telegraph office is progressing well. Since construction began in April 2016, for example, approximately 9,200 cubic meters of earth have been moved, about 8,500 cubic meters of concrete poured, and 1,200 tons of reinforcing steel used.

Upon its planned completion in spring 2018, "Geisberg Berlin," located in the Bavarian Quarter in the triangle between Schöneberg, Charlottenburg, and Wilmersdorf, will comprise 129 condominiums, five mixed-use lofts, and commercial spaces offering room for living and working. All of the apartments, ranging in size from 45 to 250 square meters, feature a balcony or terrace. The diverse floor plans, with one to five rooms, offer space for singles, couples, and families. Currently, 95 percent of the units have already been sold; only two penthouse apartments remain available.

The future apartment owners are primarily from Germany. However, interested parties from Italy, Switzerland, Norway, the USA, and even China and India have secured their piece of Berlin. Ground-floor units with adjoining terraces were particularly popular with international buyers.

For the developers of the "Geisberg Berlin" project, the historical quality of the listed building, combined with a modern vision of sustainability, is paramount. This is reflected both in the implementation of the designs by the architectural firm Ortner & Ortner Baukunst for the existing building and in the architecture of the extensions. At the same time, "Geisberg Berlin" is intended to be not only a place to live and work, but also a meeting place for its future community. To this end, the former post office hall will be transformed into a common room. Here, residents can meet, discuss topics, or work out together in the on-site fitness studio.

As the first listed historic residential building to achieve this, the project is aiming for certification with the Gold Standard of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

Geisberg Berlin is intended to be more than just a place to work; it is also a place to meet, discuss, or work out together in the building's own fitness studio. Basil Demeroutis, Managing Partner and founder of FORE Partnership, said at the topping-out ceremony: “I am impressed by the work being done by the construction workers here. At the same time, I am incredibly proud of how the team has embraced our vision of a responsible and sustainable property, seamlessly blending old and new in a new way. This will create a place very close to Kurfürstendamm that combines tranquility, community, and urban life.”

The next phase of construction will involve the interior fit-out and the completion of the landscaping.
