Neighborhood developer COPRO, together with Tesla and other mobility partners, realizes the parking garage of the future

In Berlin’s Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, a “parking garage of the future” was officially put into operation this Tuesday. The existing parking structure—developed by COPRO in collaboration with Tesla, the Berlin Agency for Electromobility eMO at Berlin Partner, the municipal mobility provider Jelbi, and the multi-energy company TotalEnergies—is set to become a driver of the mobility transition.

It now serves as a nationwide reference project for smart mobility and a blueprint for modern mobility solutions in tomorrow’s district development. With its new offerings, the revitalized Parkhaus Am Gleisdreieck—with 800 parking spaces—covers a broad spectrum of smart mobility, from charging infrastructure and zero-emission sharing options to digital connectivity. Tesla is providing 20 Supercharger fast-charging stations, each with 250 kW of power. A Supercharger can add up to 275 km of range in just 15 minutes. With more than 39,000 Superchargers, Tesla owns and operates the world’s largest fast-charging network, supporting the company’s mission to accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy. The Gleisdreieck location is part of the “Tesla Supercharger Access” pilot for non-Tesla brands, so all electric vehicles can charge there. In addition, 20 further 11 kW charging stations from TotalEnergies are slated to go into operation in the parking garage later this month.

By transforming an existing parking structure, the modern Parkhaus Am Gleisdreieck—through its integration of car-sharing and micromobility (scooters, e-scooters, bicycles)—serves as a model for other cities. In his welcome address, COPRO founder Marc F. Kimmich emphasized the project’s social importance: the parking garage of tomorrow is essential for a successful traffic transition. Only by interlinking many transport options does the modern parking garage become a hub that enables the shift to zero-emission modes.

Tino Schopf, State Secretary in Berlin’s Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises, stated that the Parkhaus Am Gleisdreieck has “exemplary character for parking garages throughout Germany.” He stressed that the development of electromobility in Berlin is due in no small part to the commitment of COPRO and its founder Marc F. Kimmich.

In a panel discussion following the launch (“Urban mobility hubs as nodes of the traffic transition – cross-industry partnerships as the key to success”), Gernot Lobenberg, head of the Berlin Agency for Electromobility eMO at Berlin Partner, said his organization provides long-term support for the market ramp-up and use of innovative mobility solutions.

Jakob Michael Heider, department head at Jelbi, added: “With Jelbi we unite all mobility offerings in a single app and provide vehicles where they’re needed. With the Jelbi station at U-Bf Gleisdreieck and the Jelbi point at U-Bf Mendelssohn-Bartholdy-Park, we’ve succeeded in offering flexible mobility options to complement the U1, U2 and U3 subway lines while also creating a governance framework for the vehicles. The COPRO parking garage completes the picture and additionally bundles various logistics, charging and mobility functions in one place.”
