European property award 2020

COPRO Projektentwicklung GmbH wins the European Property Award 2020 in the category "Residential Renovation / Redevelopment – Germany" with the project GEISBERG Berlin.
The team at COPRO Projektentwicklung GmbH succeeded in mastering an extremely complex zoning procedure under strict heritage protection requirements. The result is the complete transformation of the 95-year-old, monument-protected post and telegraph building into a timeless community housing project, meeting the highest DGNB standards.

More than 80 experts from the entire real estate sector selected the award winners in nearly 50 categories. Innovation, sustainability, safety concepts, planning, and marketing of the submitted projects were evaluated. The independent jury was impressed by the holistic design concept for the former post office, which is now "GEISBERG Berlin," a new home in the heart of the capital.

The 1925-built post office was carefully restored and modernized. Additional wings and extensions were added to create a residential complex. After seven years of project development, an ensemble of urban spatial quality was created, blending new and historical, heritage-protected building elements. This resulted in a building where architectural value and sustainable construction are combined with a new housing concept – focused on a vibrant and inspiring house community.

Based on designs by the Berlin architecture firm O&O Baukunst, GEISBERG Berlin is a community housing project that stands out for its diversity and harmoniously integrates into its surroundings. Respect for the building's heritage status shaped the design of GEISBERG Berlin. The focus was on the highest quality down to the smallest detail. This led to a thoughtful selection of living units for young and old – from 45 sqm to almost 320 sqm, from studios to lofts, in styles ranging from classic to unexpected.

The landscape concept, with ecologically designed courtyard gardens, transformed around 1 hectare of previously sealed urban space into green areas. This enhanced the quality of life for the residents and created diverse open spaces.
