How can we rethink, build, and design our cities differently, beyond distant future scenarios? Here and now? To answer these questions, we are examining the drivers that underlie the complex growth and transformation processes of metropolises and that determine their urbanity, quality of life, and adaptability:
Chance, as it shapes all planning and implementation processes – unexpectedly, dynamically, and creatively. Hardware, which, as physical space, forms the urban fabric. And the people and goods that move or are moved, thus frequenting and shaping the urban lifeblood.
As part of the MakeCity Festival, we have invited special speakers for each of these three dimensions. In this way, we want to bring inspiring figures into play to explore the possibilities of a different kind of city with us and to map it subjectively.
The discussions will take place at Gleisdreieck in Berlin, that urban hub that exemplifies the change and dynamism of this city. It was once a hub for the transshipment of goods and merchandise. Today, elevated trains rattle through the popular, award-winning park. And tomorrow, a new piece of the city will emerge here on 3.2 hectares.
This panel was conceived by Ortner & Ortner Baukunst and COPRO, for whose urban development project "Urbane Mitte am Gleisdreieck" Ortner & Ortner designed the master plan – as well as by B-PART, the "Urban Ideation Lab" located on the Urbane Mitte am Gleisdreieck project site.
