A mix of existing and new construction projects with diverse building uses has made it onto the list of eight nominees for this year's German Sustainability Award for Architecture. Among them is the experimental laboratory and pioneering building of the Urban Center Am Gleisdreieck, the B-Part Am Gleisdreieck.
All the projects convincingly demonstrate how sustainability, innovation, and design quality can be combined. This prestigious award is being presented for the eighth time this year jointly by the German Sustainability Award Foundation and the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). "This year, too, the nominees for the German Sustainability Award for Architecture cover an exciting range of architectural solutions," says DGNB Executive Board member Amandus Samsøe Sattler, who chaired the jury. The jury's statement on the nomination of B-Part reads, in part:
"This open and experimental urban laboratory aims to explore the future of living, working, community life, and mobility. The identity-forming and communicative impact that such a building can have on the people in the neighborhood was particularly praised." The jury concludes that "this project represents a very well-conceived example of temporary construction during initial operation and for potential future uses in as-yet-unknown locations."
The complete jury statement on the nomination of B-Part Am Gleisdreieck can be viewed on the German Sustainability Award website. The jury will decide on the finalists and the winner on September 15, 2020.
