The German Architecture Museum (DAM) has nominated the BRLO Brwhouse by the Berlin-based architecture firm GRAFT for the 2019 DAM Prize. Since 2007, the German Architecture Museum has awarded this prize annually to "remarkable buildings and ensembles."
The craft beer brand has been a pioneer tenant on the Urban Mitte site since summer 2016 and has since become a fixture at Gleisdreieck. Such pioneering cultural and gastronomic uses make the area accessible to the public even before construction begins. "This demonstrates what gastronomy, leisure, and urban community feel like in the heart of Berlin and what social potential this special place holds," says Marc F. Kimmich, CEO of COPRO AG.
What's special about the building: The entire structure was built from shipping containers. With this, BRLO Brwhouse has created a mobile and temporary food concept in the heart of Berlin's urban district, distinguished by its modern, straightforward design and its contemporary brewery-style cuisine.
A pop-up beer garden with access to a park is located in front of the building. The area surrounding BRLO Brwhouse also offers space for a variety of cultural events. Inside, culinary specialties from the brewery kitchen are served, which earned the restaurant the "Berlin Scene Restaurant 2017" award last year. The restaurant's own beer is served with the food. In addition to its signature beers such as "Helles" and "Porter," BRLO Brwhouse also offers craft beers from partner breweries and international breweries.
The German Architecture Museum (DAM) is a key observer and reflector of architectural and urban development in Germany. The DAM Prize is one of Germany's most prestigious architecture awards. Following a site visit by the expert jury, chaired by Fritz Auer (Auer Weber), the winning project will be selected from among the finalists and announced at the end of January 2019.
